The Stobie Pole Project is back for 2023! Following on from our successful launch last year, we have partnered again with SA Power Networks to bring you this exciting public artwork commission opportunity.
We’re thrilled to announce that we have engaged established, local artist Seb Humphreys for this project. Seb will mentor the selected group of emerging artists to create a new series of public artworks embracing the SA icon, the Stobie Pole. The works will be installed on Stobie Poles in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield council area and remain on-site for the next two years or more.
The Stobie Pole Project class of 2023, will develop their work with Seb (your creative mentor), developing their abilities and confidence in producing public artwork. This opportunity is designed to develop your ability and confidence in producing public artwork.
Selected artists will receive a fee of $3,000 plus materials and be required to have their own public liability insurance.
The opportunity will include masterclasses and workshops to develop and collaborate on ideas. The selected artists will also have the chance to build new working relationships with Seb Humphreys.
“It feels exciting to contribute to the Port Adelaide Enfield Council Area. Learning more about the culture, people and history of Angle Park was enriching. Surprisingly, I discovered that Stobie poles were historically manufactured in Angle Park. I am proud to present work in a small, perhaps meaningful way to those who use these public spaces. I hope to contribute more art in the future to this and other public spaces.”
Danny Jarratt
Danny was a participant in The Stobie Pole Project 2023. He collaborated with another emerging artist, Chloe Noble, and together they produced a series of artworks that were installed on Stobie poles near the Parks Library.
This opportunity is supported by SA Power Networks, City of Port Adelaide Enfield and Post Office Projects Gallery+Studios.
