Four South Australian emerging visual artists have been selected to take part in the second iteration of The Stobie Pole Project.
Abby Pumpa (Flinders University), Alice Hu (University of South Australia), Anna Révész (Flinders University) and Ellis Moseley (Flinders University) will be creating a series of public artworks to be installed on the iconic Stobie Pole in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.
The project is a partnership between the Helpmann Academy and SA Power Networks and will engage visual artist, Seb Humphreys to mentor the group of emerging creatives on their designs and process. Seb is known for his large-scale mural work and sculptures that explore the intersection of nature and the modern urbanised world.
The process will include masterclasses and development of ideas at Post Office Projects Gallery+Studios, as well as developing close working relationships and collaboration between Seb and our emerging artists.
Anna Révész is an emerging artist, working across several mediums, with a particular interest in photography. Anna says that she is looking forward to immersing herself in the project and expanding her practice.
“I am eager to immerse myself in a project that involves public art – to learn more about a site-specific area: about the environment, the people that inhabit or move through these spaces, and the way that art can respond to and perhaps enrich these places. Seb Humphreys’ work has always fascinated me – the atmospheres he is able to create through his work is inspiring, and I would love to learn more about how he approaches his visual concepts…”

Abby Pumpa is an emerging artist predominately working with printmaking and drawing. Abby’s familial connection to Port Adelaide, fuelled her interest in the project.
“I am a local to the area and have lived here my whole life, so I feel a connection to the area and its history. It would be awesome to get to hands on experience making public art and then being able to tell my Nan about it and have her know the exact spot where it is.”

It is anticipated that artworks will remain on-site for a period of two years or more.
