InReview Mentorship Recipient Announcement – Shannon Pearce

8 December 2022

Helpmann Academy and InReview are thrilled to introduce Shannon Pearce as the next recipient of the Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship.

Shannon graduated from the Elder Conservatorium at the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Music, specialising in jazz trumpet. She has performed at Adelaide Cabaret, Here’s to Now and Porchland festivals, is a contributing writer and sub-editor for Fresher Mag and is currently a producer on the breakfast program at Radio Adelaide.

A partnership between Helpmann and InReview, this one of kind mentorship opportunity was developed to cultivate the next generation of arts reviewers and re-build the practice of robust discourse and analysis of South Australian performing and visual arts. It was created in conjunction with the launch of the InReview site, a not-for-profit project from the publishers of InDaily, designed to support arts and culture journalism and critique in South Australia.

From late January 2023, Shannon will be partnered with a number of InReview mentors, who will assist her in building on and refining her skills in the art of review writing. Over ten weeks she will be supported to produce a number of key pieces to be published on the InReview site.

Shannon says that she is excited to expand on her musical career into the world of arts reviewing.

“The opportunity to work one-on-one with accomplished journalists and reviewers is an invaluable experience not offered in many places. I look forward to learning from my mentor’s expertise. The chance to combine my experience in music and my emerging career in journalism is very exciting,” says Pearce.

Shannon is the third recipient of the mentorship.  InReview and Helpmann will offer another mentorship later in 2023.

The Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship is a joint venture between Helpmann Academy and Solstice Media.
