Helpmann Academy and InReview are thrilled to introduce Nicky Tsz Tung Li as the Round 2 recipient of the Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship 2023.
Nicky is a multidisciplinary, queer Hong Kong artist with a passion for music theatre and experimental arts. She is a recent graduate from the University of South Australia where she completed a Bachelor of Arts (Performing Arts).
Nicky has been involved with the Adelaide music theatre community for several years, with credits including Miss Saigon, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Mary Poppins. She recently took on a socially responsible role of cultural consultant for State Theatre Company production of Single Asian Female and Rumpus Theatre’s production of Coldhands.
Running since 2021, Nicky is the fourth recipient of the Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship. The partnership between Helpmann Academy and InReview is unique and one both organisations are very proud of. The mentorship program was developed to cultivate the next generation of arts reviewers and re-build the practice of robust discourse and analysis of South Australian performing and visual arts. It was created in conjunction with the launch of the InReview site, a not-for-profit project from the publishers of InDaily, designed to support arts and culture journalism and critique in South Australia.
Through this opportunity Nicky is hoping to gain an insight of where South Australia’s arts and culture sector is headed and how emerging artists can better position themselves to achieve their goals.
“This opportunity will offer me the knowledge and perspectives to become a better cultural leader among my peers. Additionally, the mentorship shall strengthen my ability as a writer for arts magazines,” comments Nicky.
Nicky has already kicked some reviewing goals through her involvement with ArtsHub’s Amplify Collective and is looking forward to doing more.
Continues Nicky, “I hope to establish an ongoing position as a reviewer and serve as a voice for my communities.”
We will share Nicky’s published reviews on our Facebook and Instagram over the coming months.
The Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship is a joint venture between Helpmann Academy and InReview.
