Gallery Assistant Mentorship 2023

Have you ever wanted to learn the ins and outs of running an art gallery or art advisory service? Then this may be the opportunity for you.

We have exciting opportunity for an aspiring gallery worker to learn from industry icons, Sam and Margo Hill-Smith, Directors of Hill Smith Art Advisory (HSAA).

This short-term, paid mentorship will explore many areas of the day-to-day operations of a private gallery as you prepare, plan and assist with the delivery of a ‘pop-up’ group exhibition of HSAA participating artists.

Both Directors will share their extensive experience and business insights with the selected mentee. This will include areas of exhibition programming, individual exhibition planning and curating, participation in local and planning international art fairs, nurturing and maintaining relationships with artists, curators, arts writers, museums, and arts industry organisations.

In addition, this mentorship will explore evolving ways in which private galleries like Hill Smith Art Gallery was successfully restructured after 40 years of operation to its new iteration of HSAA, now working both online and by appointment with clients and artists.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Emerging visual artists who aspire to open their own gallery or run an art consultancy business or just want to learn what a Gallery Assistant role is really like to prepare for future potential employment prospects in the gallery system, are encouraged to apply.
