Elevate Your Practice

The Elevate Mentorship program is one of our longest running programs and continues to provide specialist professional development, by pairing emerging creatives with industry leaders to broaden their creative practice and support next steps.

For emerging artists, furthering your arts practice and your career can be challenging, especially having to navigate the industry on your own. Undertaking a mentorship can provide artists, with structure and guidance while achieving your creative goals.

Emerging ceramist, Holly Phillipson, lives and works on Kaurna Country, Adelaide, making functional ceramic artworks influenced by global craft traditions and historical artefacts, as well as wheel-thrown and hand-built tableware. Her passion for making is fuelled by the rich history of ceramic production and its enduring role throughout human history.

Holly is currently undertaking a mentorship with two mentors as part of the Elevate Mentorship Program. Holly’s first mentor is renowned ceramic artist, Kirsten Coelho, who is assisting her with developing concepts, ceramic techniques and design skills to create a new body of work, as well as sharing knowledge on how to expand her audience. Holly is also being mentored by professional potter and expert glaze developer, Peter Andersson, to build her glaze development skills to make compelling glazes for her new work.

“These mentorships will help me take my career to the next level and gain more autonomy in my professional direction. Producing a new, refined body of work for my professional portfolio will allow me to confidently approach galleries and stockists that align with my values and style, and plant seeds for future opportunities.”
Holly Phillipson

The Elevate Mentorship Program is one of Helpmann’s most valuable programs, presented by Commonwealth Private and supported through a giving circle of key philanthropic patrons.
