The Helpmann Academy has awarded 8 emerging creatives across a range of creative disciplines with up to $3,000 in support through the first round of the Creative Development Grants program.
Offered over two rounds in 2022, the Creative Development Grants support eligible emerging creatives with grants of up to $3,000 to kickstart new projects, research and develop ideas/new works or build skills, markets and creative practices.
The full list of Helpmann Academy Creative Development Grant recipients:
Alice Lawrence (Flinders University graduate) will direct a short film in September 2022, titled The Good Witch, with the goal of having a showreel piece and to enter into festivals.
Benjamin Finnis (University of Adelaide Honours graduate) will press his debut original album to vinyl and will launch it with live performances in Adelaide and Melbourne at the beginning of 2023.
Brianna Speight (University of South Australia Honours graduate) will make and present a new body of photography work, working with performers on photoshoots and developing technical skills for working with textiles.
Chloe Tornow (Flinders University graduate) will manufacture her new collection, Barely There SS23 which she will launch at Equestrian Exhibition Equitana in November 2022.
Joseph Häxan (University of South Australia graduate) will exhibit large scale photographic prints at Sydney Contemporary in September 2022 with Gag Projects.
Sally Craven (University of South Australia graduate) will present a new body of work at Seventh Gallery (VIC) in November 2022, and Pari Ari (NSW) in January 2023.
Simone Linder-Patton (Flinders University Honours graduate) expand her knowledge and experience of wood firing techniques and kiln building through a mentorship, and residency, with Studio Potter Ben Richardson, at Ridgeline Pottery, Tasmania.
Truc Truong (University of South Australia Honours graduate) will research and develop new work and ideas while participating in workshops and networking with artists in Vietnam in December 2022 to January 2023.
