The Helpmann Academy is thrilled to announce that emerging multidisciplinary artist and experimental filmmaker, Tiah Trimboli, is the recipient of the Helpmann Academy British School at Rome 2025 residency, valued at $30,000.
Tiah is a recent graduate from Flinders University, with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Screen). Based in Adelaide, she brings together diverse aspects of her creative practice, such as set construction, photography, sculpture, and sound design. Her work also explores modern identity and isolation through multimedia installations and experimental film.
Since graduating from Flinders University in 2020, Tiah’s works have been exhibited at Sauerbier House, Festival Centre’s Moving Image Program, with her most recent experimental film installation project, STREGA, debuting at this year’s Adelaide Film Festival.
Tiah will spend three-months from April next year immersed in the heart of the Italian capital, at the prestigious British School at Rome. Known as the BSR, it is Britain’s leading humanities research institute abroad and one of the most prestigious foreign academies in Italy.
Tiah will be provided with one of the BSR’s bright and inspiring studio spaces, along with opportunities to network and develop her practice within an immersive artistic community. The residency will conclude with the ‘Mostra’ 2025 exhibition, showcasing new works by the resident artists.
“By the end of this residency, I aim to return to Adelaide with a more solidified understanding of my creative abilities, supported by my findings in the Super 8 footage, 35mm photographs, and reflections that I will take back with me. The writing and insights from my time in Rome will guide my editing process as I continue to work on the films in Adelaide, but will also serve as invaluable resources as I continue to build upon my artistic identity in future projects.”
