215 Magill Resident 2026 Announced

28 November 2025

215 Magill is home to a range of practising artists and makers, showcasing the best in South Australian made furniture, art and design. Located in Maylands, there is a full machine shop for woodwork in addition to the studio space. This studio opportunity at 215 Magill provides emerging artists with the critical time, space, and freedom to evolve their practice, create new work, expose them to the creative community and skill share.

We’re delighted to announce that Chelsie Morey, a graduate of UniSA, has been awarded the 215 Magill residency for 2026! The residency will provide Chelsie with a 12-month rent-free studio to expand her practice, create new work and introduce her to new networks.

Chelsie is a mixed media sculptor, public artist and illustrator. Inspired by the genre of magical realism, her creative practice showcases urban environments in a surreal context to defamiliarise routine sights, explore interpretations of place and foster a greater sense of curiosity for everyday life.

“I’m very excited to use my residency at 215 Magill to continue exploring this newfound combination of illustration and woodworking. I feel incredibly lucky to be supported with the workspace, machinery and professional guidance this opportunity offers so I can fully throw myself down the rabbit hole!” Chelsie Morey, 215 Magill resident 2026.

Since graduating from UniSA with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (first class Honours) in 2023, her work has focussed on developing techniques that translate her research into urban exploration, defamiliarisation, and conceptual illustration. Her most recent work reimagines her structural illustrations as layered, timber sculptures in public artworks, exhibiting as part of the Helpmann Academy Stobie Pole Project (2024), Thick and Thin for the 2025 Adelaide Fringe and Unconventional Construction Co. at Gallery42 (2025).

“The 215 Magill residency is a rare and transformative opportunity, having a full year of space, time, and creative freedom within a vibrant community. Chelsie is an exceptional emerging artist whose practice continues to evolve with strength and clarity. We’re thrilled to support her through this residency and look forward to seeing where this opportunity leads her.” Jane MacFarlane, CEO Helpmann Academy

Chelsie will commence her residency in early 2026.

This opportunity is generously supported by Mark Jones of Ferguson George and 215 Magill.
