215 Magill is home to a wide range of practicing artists and makers, showcasing the best in South Australian made furniture, art and design. Located in Maylands, there is a full machine shop for woodwork in addition to the studio space.
The residency at 215 Magill provides an eligible emerging South Australian artist with a unique 12-month studio residency. This studio opportunity at 215 Magill will provide you with the critical time, space, and freedom to evolve your practice, create new work, expose you to the creative community and skill share.
“The support from Helpmann Academy has given me the time, space, and focus to deepen both my studio practice and academic research. Having a dedicated studio at 215 Magill has been instrumental — it’s allowed me to push my work further, test new ideas, and stay grounded in the physical process of making. Being surrounded by other artists has been incredibly energising, and the opportunity to present new work publicly through exhibitions has been invaluable to the development of my practice.”
Marlize de Klerk, 215 Magill resident 2025
You will have access to a full range of equipment and tools that you may not have been available to you before. The dedicated studio can enable you to expand your practice by experimenting with new materials and techniques or just simply having the physical space to work on larger scale pieces. Your practice and career will be developed throughout the entire residency as you are immersed in a busy, productive studio and workshop, with engaged fellow artists.
The selected 215 Magill resident will also be offered a solo exhibition with the City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters Council at The Gallery, St Peters Town Hall. The exhibition will take place during the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2027.
The 215 Magill residency is open to artists working across a wide range of mediums.
The selected artist will be awarded a shared studio space, rent free for 12-months.
The studio has 24-hour access, security and WIFI.

WHY APPLY?
A residency provides you with a dedicated studio space outside of your usual surroundings. For the term of the residency, you will have time and space for reflection and experimentation as you delve deeper into your practice, create new work, meet other artists, and be exposed to a community of creative practitioners outside of your regular network. By meeting other artists and makers, you will be exposed to new ideas and ways of working as you share more than just equipment.
