215 Magill is home to a range of practicing artists and makers, showcasing the best in South Australian made furniture, art and design. Located in Maylands, there is a full machine shop for woodwork in addition to the studio space.
The residency at 215 Magill provides an eligible emerging South Australian artist with a unique 12-month studio residency. This opportunity at 215 Magill will provide you with the critical time, space, and freedom to evolve your practice, create new work, expose you to new networks and skill share.
You will have access to a full range of equipment and tools that you may not have been available to you before. The dedicated studio can enable you to expand your practice by experimenting with new materials and techniques or just simply having the physical space to work on larger scale pieces. Your practice and career will be developed throughout the entire residency as you are immersed in a busy, productive studio and workshop.
The 215 Magill residency will appeal to artists working across a wide range of mediums.
The selected artist will be awarded a shared studio space, rent free for 12-months. The studio has 24-hour access, security and WIFI. This opportunity is valued at $6,000.
Interested applicants are welcome to email us and register your interest in a studio tour prior to applying.
“It’s been great to work in the studio with such a great team of artists around you that understand your practice. We’re all ceramicists! It’s been so helpful to have that peer critique and support for each other, even it’s just checking in on what you are working on.” – Stephanie Doddridge, 215 Magill 2023 recipient
WHY APPLY?
A residency provides you with a dedicated studio space outside of your usual surroundings. For the term of the residency, you will have time and space for reflection and experimentation as you delve deeper into your practice, create new work, meet other artists, and be exposed to a community of creative practitioners outside of your regular network. By meeting other artists and makers, you will be exposed to new ideas and ways of working as you share more than just equipment.
