The Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition has an established reputation as the showcase exhibition of South Australia’s best emerging artists and shines a spotlight on the top emerging artists from Flinders University and the University of South Australia.
Helpmann Academy is pleased to invite applications from emerging visual artists and curators to undertake a mentorship as Project Curator for the 2024 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition.
In 2024 the Graduate Exhibition opens at its new location at the University of South Australia’s South Australian School of Art (SASA) Gallery, UniSA Kaurna Building, City West.
Working in collaboration with the University of South Australia, the Project Curator mentorship is an incredible opportunity that will enable the successful applicant to kickstart or further develop their curatorial career.
“The experience was a one-of-a-kind opportunity for me to join a brilliant team of industry professionals. I was endlessly encouraged to push myself and my practice. Most beneficially, I was urged to make sustainable and meaningful connections, connections that are still fruitful to this day.”
Hannah Coleman, 2023 Graduate Exhibition Project Curator
Under the guidance of a curatorial mentor from UniSA Creative, the Project Curator will have the opportunity to develop and broaden their skills to create a cohesive, impactful exhibition of works that speak to different themes and ideas.
The mentorship will run from November 2023 to April 2024. Remuneration for the role is $3,000. Applicants from a CALD or ATSI background are strongly encouraged to apply.
“The process of seeing all the works be selected and then envisioning how they would come together, how it is translated from paper to seeing it all in the space was just the most amazing thing. I haven’t really experienced anything like that before.”
Lucy Zola, 2022 Graduate Exhibition Project Curator
